The chairs are aimed at fomenting and promoting knowledge and research into specific topics on the Basque language and culture through specialist professors and artists themselves. The Etxepare Basque Institute has to date created three international chairs, all of which undertake annual academic programmes on Basque Studies. 

Manuel Irujo Chair at the University of Liverpool

The Manuel Irujo Fellowship Chair, part of theDepartment of Cultures, Languages and Area Studies at the University of Liverpool, will come into place during the 2014-2015 academic year and will be occupied annually. The visiting professor will teach a four-month course on the History and Politics of the Basque Country in general, and on Basque exile in particular, thereby promoting study and research of this topic.
